Hosting companies in Ghana for Django and React: where to host your app
Both options work for a typical web app. This page explains the trade-off, how a Django and React deployment is laid out, and what we can and cannot offer from our EU datacenters.
Short answer
- 1You can host a Django and React app either with a company that runs servers in Ghana or with a provider in Europe; both work for a typical web app, and the right choice depends on who your users are and what data you store.
- 24hosting has no servers in Ghana. Our datacenters are in Frankfurt, with network points of presence in Frankfurt, London and New York.
- 3A VPS with root access is the natural fit for Django, because you control Python, the ASGI or WSGI server, and PostgreSQL.
- 4React is a build step, not a server: its production build produces static files that a web server or CDN can serve.
- 5Before you pick any provider, check the legal side of keeping personal data abroad. We cover that in a separate page linked below.
Local servers or servers abroad: what actually changes
A company with servers in Ghana can be a good fit when your users are mostly local, when a client or contract requires data to stay in the country, or when you want to pay and talk to support in person. Ask any local provider the same practical questions you would ask anyone: what hardware you get, how backups are taken and restored, and whether you have root access.
A provider in Europe gives you access to large datacenter facilities and a mature network, at the price of distance from your users. We do not publish latency numbers for Ghana, because we have not measured them for this page. Test it yourself: create a small server, deploy your app and load it from the connections your real users have.
Distance matters least for an API plus a React front end whose files are cached by the browser, and most for chatty pages that make many sequential requests. Design for that either way.
How a Django and React deployment is usually laid out
Django's own documentation describes a deployment checklist: turn off debug mode, set the allowed hosts, keep the secret key out of your repository, and run the deployment check command before going live. Do these first, whichever provider you use.
For the application server, the Django documentation shows running Gunicorn with a Uvicorn worker class for ASGI projects. For classic WSGI projects Gunicorn alone is the common choice. Put a reverse proxy such as Nginx in front to terminate HTTPS.
Static files follow Django's documented flow: set STATIC_ROOT and run the collectstatic command so the files are copied to one directory that the web server serves. Your React build output can be served from the same web server, or from a separate location, while the Django app answers only API requests.
Use PostgreSQL for the database and keep it on the same server or on a private network with the app. On a VPS you install and operate it yourself, including backups.
Three typical setups
A fintech dashboard in Accra
A Django REST API and a React dashboard for internal staff. A single VPS runs Gunicorn, Nginx and PostgreSQL, and staff use the tool from office connections. The team keeps a nightly database dump copied to a second location.
An online shop in Kumasi
React storefront files are built once and served as static assets, while Django handles orders and the admin. Because customer names and phone numbers are stored, the owner reads the data protection question before choosing where the database lives.
A small agency in Takoradi
The agency hosts several client apps on one VPS with Docker containers, one per project, and uses a reverse proxy to route each domain. Root access makes this possible; shared hosting would not.
Illustrative scenarios, not customer case studies.
Common mistakes
- Leaving DEBUG on in production or hard-coding the secret key in the repository.
- Serving static files through the Django development server instead of collecting them and serving them with a web server.
- Running the database with no tested restore. A backup you have never restored is only a hope.
- Choosing a provider on the price of the first month without checking renewal terms, backups and support language.
- Storing personal data abroad without reading the local law first.
How 4hosting helps
We run datacenters in the European Union, in Frankfurt, not in Ghana. A VPS gives you root access, NVMe storage and Docker readiness, so you can run Django, a reverse proxy and PostgreSQL yourself.
Every VPS includes between 1 and 8 hours per month of DevOps, CyberSecurity and programming services, requested from the client panel. Hours do not roll over, and time beyond the quota is accepted and billed separately. Migration to us is free, and support is offered in English and Romanian.
We do not sign legal compliance on your behalf, and we do not certify your application.
Ask us about your app →Frequently asked questions
Does 4hosting have servers in Ghana?
No. Our datacenters are in Frankfurt, and we have network points of presence in Frankfurt, London and New York. We support customers in Ghana from there.
Which 4hosting product suits a Django and React app?
A VPS, because it gives you root access to install Python, a web server and PostgreSQL. cPanel plans are built for PHP and WordPress style sites and are not the usual choice for a Django app.
How do I pay from Ghana?
We invoice customers outside Romania in EUR. We have not verified which local payment methods work from Ghana, so check the available options at checkout or ask us before you order.
