Rent a server in Montenegro: dedicated server and VPS from the EU
A plain guide for businesses in Montenegro who want to rent a server. Situation as of 30.09.2026.
Short answer
- 14hosting does not operate a datacentre in Montenegro. Our datacentre is in the European Union, in Frankfurt, so a server you rent from us is located in Germany.
- 2You can rent a VPS or a dedicated server from a company in Montenegro or anywhere else; the server is managed remotely over the network, exactly as it would be from a rack in your own city.
- 3Choose a VPS when you need root access and a small to medium workload. Choose a dedicated server when you need a whole machine, more cores and memory, or predictable performance.
- 4Because the server is not in Montenegro, latency is higher than with a local server. We do not publish millisecond figures, because we have not measured them for Montenegro.
- 5Prices are on the subscriptions page and not on this page, so that you always see the current catalogue.
VPS or dedicated server: how to decide
A VPS is a virtual server with root access. The VPS plans use NVMe SSD storage, can run Docker and are Kubernetes ready. They fit web applications, APIs, small databases, internal tools and staging environments, and you can move to a larger plan as the project grows.
A dedicated server is a physical machine that only you use. The public dedicated plans are built on AMD Ryzen and EPYC or Intel Core and Xeon processors, with DDR4 or DDR5 memory and NVMe disks, and with unmetered traffic. Dedicated servers carry a 99.99 % SLA. They suit large databases, heavy build pipelines, game or media back ends and workloads where you do not want to share a host.
If you are unsure, start with a VPS. Moving a containerised application to a dedicated server later is usually a matter of redeploying, and the migration service can help with it.
Where the server is, and what that means for you in Montenegro
The servers are in Frankfurt. The network offers 10 Gbps symmetric connectivity and L3/L4 DDoS protection of up to 1.5 Tbps is included. For a visitor in Podgorica or Budva, a site in Frankfurt loads from a distance, so the round trip is longer than from a server in the region.
For most business sites, shops, dashboards and APIs this difference is acceptable, especially when you use caching and keep pages light. For real-time voice, competitive gaming or anything where every round trip counts, test from your own location before you commit.
Choosing a server in the EU also simplifies one thing: you know in which country the data physically sits. Whether your own obligations are met is a question for you and your legal adviser; hosting is not a compliance certificate.
Billing and support
Outside Romania, 4hosting invoices in euros. The checkout cannot charge other currencies, so plan your budget in EUR. Local VAT is shown separately on the invoice where it applies.
Support is provided in English and Romanian. Migration from your current host is free, and each plan includes monthly hours of DevOps, cybersecurity and programming services delivered by the 4hosting team.
Examples
Online shop in Podgorica
A shop running WordPress or a similar CMS with moderate traffic. A VPS or a cPanel plan is usually enough. The owner accepts slightly higher latency in exchange for NVMe storage and daily backups on cPanel plans, and puts a cache in front of product pages.
Software team in Bar with a containerised API
The team deploys Docker containers for an API and a PostgreSQL database. A VPS with root access fits the early stage. When the database grows, they move to a dedicated server and ask for included DevOps hours to help with tuning and backups.
Tourism company with a booking platform on the coast
Most of the traffic comes from visitors in other European countries, for whom Frankfurt is often closer than a local server. The company keeps the booking database on a dedicated machine and uses the DDoS protection that is included.
Common mistakes
- Searching for a Montenegrin datacentre when the workload does not need one. Decide first whether your users are local or spread across Europe.
- Assuming that a server in the EU means that you are automatically compliant with every law that applies to your business.
- Choosing a dedicated server for a small site, or staying on a small VPS when the database is already the bottleneck.
- Budgeting in a local currency: the invoice is in euros outside Romania.
- Skipping the backup and restore test before going live.
How 4hosting helps
- The datacentre is in the EU, in Frankfurt, and not in Montenegro. We say this openly so that you can choose with the right expectations.
- VPS with NVMe storage and root access, and dedicated servers with NVMe disks, unmetered traffic and a 99.99 % SLA.
- Free migration from your current provider.
- Included monthly hours of DevOps, cybersecurity and programming services, requested from the client panel. Hours do not carry over, and anything beyond the included quota is accepted and billed separately.
- 4hosting does not issue compliance certificates and does not sign legal compliance on behalf of the client. We describe alignment with ISO 27001 practices, not an ISO 27001 certificate.
- Support in English and Romanian.
