Java & Spring Boot Development in the UK

Programming Services · United Kingdom

Java & Spring Boot development in the UK covers enterprise backends, integrations with ERP and banking systems, and batch processing, built with Spring Boot, Quarkus or Micronaut and run on VPS or dedicated servers we manage. We containerise every application, tune the JVM for the hardware it runs on, and keep it patched.

  • Spring Boot, Quarkus and Micronaut, containerised and tuned
  • ERP and banking-grade integration work
  • Runs on VPS or dedicated servers with root access
  • VPS 1–8h/month; dedicated servers 5–10h/month depending on plan

What we build

We build enterprise backends and internal APIs in Spring Boot, and reach for Quarkus or Micronaut when startup time and memory footprint matter, typically for services that need to scale quickly or run in a resource-constrained container. Batch jobs, scheduled reconciliations and integrations with ERP or banking systems are a large part of the work, since Java is still the default choice for that layer in most UK enterprises.

  • Lean, fast-starting services in Quarkus or Micronaut
  • Batch jobs and scheduled reconciliations
  • Integrations with ERP, banking and legacy systems

Where it runs

Java applications run containerised on VPS plans for most workloads, moving to dedicated servers once memory or CPU requirements justify it, on AMD Ryzen/EPYC or Intel Core/Xeon hardware, with ECC RAM on the EPYC and Xeon tiers. We tune the JVM's heap and garbage collector settings against the container's actual resource limits rather than leaving default values in place, which is where most of the unnecessary memory pressure in Java deployments comes from.

UK context

Java and Spring Boot work in the UK often ties into financial services or public-sector integrations, where a documented, EU-resident infrastructure with a GDPR processing agreement is expected during procurement, including G-Cloud submissions. Our Frankfurt data centre satisfies that without routing data outside Europe, and invoices carry EUR pricing with UK VAT at 20% shown as a separate line.

How the included hours get used

Java clients typically use their monthly hours for JVM tuning once an application shows memory pressure under load, containerising a service that previously ran on a bare server, building integrations with ERP or payment systems, and running multiple Spring Boot applications on shared infrastructure without them competing for resources. You request the work from the panel, and anything past the monthly quota is billed separately.

How we work

  1. Request from the panel

You raise a request under Programming Services describing the Java or Spring Boot task and a deadline that suits your release cycle.

  2. Scope and timeline

We confirm the framework and target infrastructure, estimate the hours against your monthly quota, and flag anything outside it.

  3. Delivery

We build, containerise and load-test the service on staging, then deploy it once you've approved the result.

  4. Handover

You receive the repository, container configuration, JVM tuning notes and a short runbook for deployment and rollback.

Use cases

Insurance back-office in London

A mid-sized insurer's Spring Boot claims-processing system was hitting memory limits under end-of-month load; we retuned the JVM's garbage collector settings and moved the service onto a dedicated server sized for the actual peak.

Manufacturing ERP integration in Birmingham

A manufacturer needed a Quarkus service to sync stock levels between their ERP and an e-commerce platform in near real time, replacing a nightly batch job that was causing stale inventory.

Public sector supplier in Bristol

A supplier bidding on a G-Cloud contract needed their Spring Boot platform containerised and documented against EU data-residency requirements ahead of a procurement review.

Technology stack

  • Java 21
  • Spring Boot
  • Quarkus
  • Micronaut
  • PostgreSQL
  • Docker
  • Kubernetes
  • Kafka
  • Maven

Every subscription includes monthly DevOps, CyberSecurity and Programming hours: 1 h from the cPanel Advanced plan up, 1–8 h on VPS, 5–10 h on dedicated servers depending on the plan, and 10 h on GPU servers. Hours are requested from your client panel, don't roll over to the next month, and anything above the quota is accepted and billed separately.

Frequently asked questions

  • Where can I host a Spring Boot application?

On our VPS or dedicated server plans, both with root access and Docker support. We don't recommend shared cPanel hosting for Java applications: they need consistent memory allocation and process control that shared plans don't provide.

  • Can I run multiple Spring Boot apps on one server?

Yes, as long as each is containerised with its own resource limits so they don't compete for the same heap space. We size the server and set per-container limits based on how many services you plan to run and their expected load.

  • How much RAM does a Spring Boot app need in production?

It depends heavily on the application, but a modest Spring Boot service typically needs a few hundred megabytes of heap at minimum, more once you add caching or in-memory processing. We profile the actual application rather than guessing from defaults.

  • Should we rewrite our Java microservices in Go?

Only if you're hitting real resource limits under high-concurrency load that JVM tuning can't fix. For most enterprise integration and batch workloads, Java remains the more practical choice given the ecosystem and your team's existing skills.

  • Do you support Quarkus or Micronaut, not just Spring Boot?

Yes. We use Quarkus or Micronaut when fast startup and a lower memory footprint matter, for example services that need to scale quickly in Kubernetes, and Spring Boot for the broader ecosystem when that's the better fit.

  • Is our infrastructure suitable for financial services integrations?

Both data centres are inside the EU, we provide a GDPR data processing agreement on request, and we align our operations with ISO 27001 practices. We can't issue compliance certifications ourselves, but we support the documentation your own audit needs.
